Waterproof Sounds from DemerBox • Spotter Up

For all those outdoor enthusiasts that like to enjoy their music in all conditions may I suggest the DemerBox, the ultimate outdoor Bluetooth speaker. It’s both a waterproof speaker and a small storage case to protect your stuff while boating, off-roading with a UTV, or hanging out at the lake. You could use it for animal calls for hunting predators or listening to your newest playlist at your favorite swimming hole or beach.

Demer Box DB2 in Jet Port Silver

DemerBox DB2 is a made in the US, waterproof, Bluetooth speaker built in a Pelican 1300 Protector case. It comes with two 3” 8 ohm speakers and a port for the bass that can be plugged for 100% waterproof capability. This is the perfect speaker for waterborne activities like out on your boat, at the beach or hanging at the pool. The 1300 Protector case allows you to fit your personal belongings like cellphone, keys, wallet and even a couple of cold Monsters. The speakers and bass port take up about 2-3” of inside storage space. You can charge your phone from either of the USB ports inside the case while listening to your favorite playlist. The new version DB2 has a USB-A for output and a USB-C input/output to both charge the speaker or another device. This version doesn’t have an audio jack and is all Bluetooth connectivity. The Bluetooth range is said to be 100’ line of sight, I didn’t run any tests on it but was able to walk away from the speaker at least 40’  while washing the RV without any issues, unlike some of my other Bluetooth speakers that faded at 5-15’. The website boasts a 40+ hour run time and it seems very likely. I ran it for a few days without charging it and still had bars left. Obviously if you use it to charge your phone or other devices that run time will be reduced. This makes it a great portable speaker for multiple day adventures like camping or floating the river where you might be away from shore power.

The case is sealed with Pelican’s silicone o-ring lid and automatic pressure release valve. The folding handle reduces the size and shape when not being carried around and the case is secured with two ABS throw latches and lock eyeholes to secure all your stuff. The bass port has a plug that when secured will make the case fully waterproof and a storage spot inside the lid when not needed. You can run charging cables through the port when the plug is not in use. When I was doing some research about the Pelican 1300 Protector case, I saw that you could order a TrekPak Case Divider Kit to organize the storage space inside the case. It looks nice and organized but not completely necessary, although it might be worth it to protect your phone from keys and things. The speakers are covered with a grille to protect the cones, however they won’t protect against the pressure from water if you throw it in the lake. You will also likely want some weight, like a couple cold cans, inside to keep the case floating speakers up.

The case includes an external switch plate with a battery level indicator, power and volume buttons which allow you to pair and adjust volume without opening the case. You are able to pair multiple DemerBox speakers similar to other major brands. The 2 speakers put out >94db at 1’ for you tech nerds, for the rest of us it was loud enough to listen to while cruising to dinner on the boat. It’s easy to clean off all the sand or mud by just rinsing under some running fresh water and a light sponge if needed. Currently they are available in 11 colors and the ability to build your own choosing the case and grill colors. Of course, you can always coat it in your favorite stickers too. DemerBox has a 1 year manufacturers warranty and a 60 day money back customer satisfaction guarantee. The latches are covered under a lifetime warranty (probably directly from Pelican, they have a kick ass lifetime warranty for broken or defective parts).

Final Thoughts: This is a great waterproof speaker and storage box for outdoor adventures, built with durability in mind. It’s a little pricey at $400 but runtime and waterproof storage beats the competitors. You could save a little and get the DB1 (single speaker) for $250. These are built with made in the US Pelican cases and assembled in Florida, which could account for some of the price.

By the numbers:

Comfort – 3/5 It’s a hard plastic box and a bit bulky at approximately 11”x10”x7” to be rolling around on your bike or throwing in your bags for travel. We won’t be seeing that many people rolling around using them as “theme music” speakers on their electric scooters.

Durability – 5/5 Without long-term testing I can’t say how long the speakers will last but the Pelican box it comes in and the casing for the components says that I can treat this pretty rough and it will keep working.

Functionality – 5/5 The DB2 has all the same features of other Bluetooth speakers and then some: multiple speaker pairing, 40+ hour runtime, ability to charge other devices, store personal items, and an IP76 waterproof/dustproof rating

Weight – 4/5 Because of its size it comes in at 5.5lbs which is lighter than other speakers at this size but will get heavier once you add your personal stuff to the inside.

Value – 3.5/5 This is definitely on the high end for what you are getting in a speaker, there are some for half the price that are louder and have an equalizer for sound quality, but it outshines in runtime and capability to secure your personal items and keep them dry. It is made in the US.

Overall rating – 4.1/5 If you want storage and a Bluetooth speaker in the same box with unbeatable runtime and durability, the price might be worth it.
